The Taguig City Government began its November distribution of birthday cash gifts for seniors, with city officials visiting them directly at home to ensure safety and convenience. Spearheaded by Mayor Lani Cayetano, the program, which awards amounts from PHP 3, 000 to PHP 10, 000 based on the senior’s age, includes a PHP 100, 000 gift for centenarians.
The initiative is part of Taguig’s ‘Transformative, Lively, and Caring’ city agenda, which aims to prioritize the welfare of senior citizens through financial and social support programs. By bringing the gifts directly to residents’ homes, the city “avoids potential difficulties seniors may face in traveling, while also emphasizing Taguig’s commitment to accessibility and compassionate governance.”
Taguig’s cash distribution program also aligns with other senior citizen-focused initiatives in the Philippines, such as healthcare subsidies and priority access to government services, aimed at promoting dignity and well-being among the elderly population. As the country’s senior population grows, local governments like Taguig LGU are increasingly recognizing the importance of programs that support aging with dignity and independence.
