Suspicious parcels yield P6.1-M marijuana in Las Piñas City

MANILA – Suspicious parcels received by a forwarding company were found to contain suspected dried marijuana leaves worth PHP6.1 million in Las Piñas City, the Southern Police District (SPD) said on Wednesday.

In a news release, SPD Director Brig. Gen. Manuel Arugena said the police were informed about the unclaimed parcels on Tuesday night by an employee of the forwarding company in Barangay Pamplona Tres, Las Piñas City.

Abruega said authorities found five large balikbayan boxes containing 51 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops, hidden among other packages.

He said the inventory of the seized suspected drugs was witnessed in the presence of representatives from Barangay Pamplona Tres and the Department of Justice –Office of the City Prosecutor (DOJ-OCP) Las Piñas City.

Abruega said the investigation into the unclaimed parcels is already underway to determine where they came from and where they were headed.

He also urged the public to be vigilant and to continue to cooperate with the authorities by immediately reporting any suspicious activity. (PNA)
