SSL Pre-Season: Arellano dominates EAC

MANILA – Arellano University outclassed Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), 25-17, 25-16, 25-12, in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Pre-Season Championship at Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila on Sunday.

The Lady Chiefs joined the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles on top of Pool A.

Lyann De Guzman scored 17 points on 14 attacks, two aces and one block as Ateneo came from behind to turn back San Beda University, 22-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-7, late Saturday.

Laika Tudlasan had 10 points while Kacelyn Punzalan and Mauie Joice Magaling chipped in eight and six points, respectively, for Arellano.

“We’re grateful for the win. Our coaches said that this is the test where we will apply what we have worked hard for,” Tudlasan said after the one hour and 26-minute match.

“We have a good communication and we are happy in the team. We trust each each other,” she added.

Erica Maye Bodonal led EAC with six points followed by Cara Xia Dayanan with five points.

Jennifer Santos contributed 12 points while Geezel Tsunashima had 11 points in Ateneo’s inaugural win.

San Beda was paced by Angel Habacon with 14 points, followed by Janelle Bachar with 10 points.

Lyceum of the Philippines University also needed five sets to stop Mapua University, 25-9, 19-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-12, in Pool B.

Johna Dolorito, Joan Doguna, Hiromi Osada and Janeth Tulang carried the fight for the Lady Pirates, who lost to the University of the East Lady Warriors on Friday, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 14-25. (PNA)
