VMUF’s Cano sets national record in World Archery Philippines tilt

Fifteen-year-old Leila Jell Cano of Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation made history after clinching the top spot and breaking the Philippine archery record in U18 Recurve Women’s 60-meter Category during the World Archery Philippines National Youth Team Selection event last February 1, 2026 at the STI Goldtoe Archery Range in Marikina City.

Demonstrating remarkable focus and endurance, Cano topped the rankings after completing nine  sessions against the country’s elite young archers.

In addition to her overall ranking, Cano achieved a historic milestone in the Qualifying Rounds of the U18 category when she shattered the record of Naina Tagle of Dumaguete with 639 points  posted in August 2023.

Cano first tied the previous record before officially surpassing it to claim the new title with 668 points in 72 arrows.

“Her discipline, consistency, and competitive nature set her apart throughout the event, earning her the top spot in one of the most closely contested categories”, San Carlos City Archery Club head coach Federico Lopez Jr. intoned.
