BUGALLON, Pangasinan—The Umingan National High School Girls Volleyball Team reigned supreme during the 1st National Grassroots Volleyball League – Provincial Qualifying Tournament after outclassing Chandon National High School in three-straight sets; 25-22, 25-21, 25-8, last February 22, 2026 at Bugallon Sports Complex in Bugallon, Pangasinan.

The National Grassroots Volleyball League is a nationwide school-based developmental program for girls under 16-year-old that aims to discover untapped talents and give opportunities for all aspiring volleyball athletes to showcase their wares.

Contending against five teams in Region I, Umingan NHS tallied an unblemished 5-0 record and finished the elimination rounds at the first spot.

During the first set of the finals, Umingan’s setter Xyren Ibasan controlled the pace with seven excellent sets alongside the five attack points of Rhea Corpuz to take the advantage, 25-22.

In the second set, Steffy Mare Segundo helmed Candon’ counterattack with six points. However, these efforts were stopped by Corpuz’s crosscourt hammers with seven points to preserve Umingan’slead, 21-25.

Umingan NHS rode on the momentum and never looked back with 15 attack points against 3 points of Candon to pull away and secure the championship.

Led by head coach Louie Anthony De Leon, the Umingan NHS Girls Volleyball Team willcontinue to sharpen their skills as they are set to advance in the NGVL Regional Finals on March 7 to 15. Kim Gealogo
