The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) praised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s emphasis on “aggressive infrastructure development” and the recognition of housing as a “vital pillar” of the economy during his State of the Nation Address on July 22.
In an official statement posted on its Facebook page, SHFC—a government-owned and controlled corporation and a key shelter agency under the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD)—reported steady progress in its socialized housing programs.
Aligned with the Marcos administration’s commitment to addressing the country’s six million housing backlog, SHFC highlighted its role in implementing the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) Program, led by DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar.
SHFC currently oversees 12 of the 111 4PH projects, with a total of 45,494 housing units under construction. These projects are strategically located in the City of Manila, San Fernando City in Pampanga, Davao City, Misamis Oriental, Valenzuela City, Puerto Princesa City, Cavite, Antipolo City, Quezon City, and Bulacan. The goal is to deliver 505,951 housing units by the end of 2028.
As of the second year of Marcos Jr.’s administration, SHFC has assisted 35,428 families, providing a total loan amount of P6.35 billion from June 2022 to May 2024.
Additionally, SHFC implements the Community Mortgage Program (CMP), offering housing financing solutions. Since 1988, the CMP, initially managed under the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation, another key shelter agency, has benefited 468,275 informal settler families nationwide, disbursing a total of P34.1 billion in loans.
The agency’s website also reports contributions to the national treasury, including P1.04 billion in dividends and P506.48 million in corporate income taxes. – AD Dacillo
