The town of Santo Tomas will celebrate its 118th founding anniversary on March 21 with the staging of its signature Longest Corn Grill event, featuring 118 connected grilling tables prepared for the occasion.

Mayor Dickerson Villar invited residents and visitors to witness the simultaneous lighting of more than 100 grills, an activity associated with the town’s recognition for staging one of the longest corn grill displays recorded locally.

Organizers estimate that around 300 ears of corn will be grilled during the celebration, based on an average of about 20 pieces per table.

Local officials said corn production in the municipality remains stable, with farmers maintaining recognition for producing high-quality corn varieties. The town promotes both purple corn, known for its sweetness, and yellow corn commonly used for animal feed. Pure purple corn rich in antioxidants is also being cultivated in designated agricultural and agri-tourism areas.

Municipal officials added that coordination with agricultural support groups and national agencies continues to help ensure access to fertilizers, seedlings, and other farm inputs for local corn growers.

The anniversary celebration is expected to draw visitors as part of efforts to promote agriculture and community tourism in the town.
