San Nicolas eyes ‘Beyond Compliant’ recognition in Gawad Kalasag Awards

The local government of San Nicolas is aiming to secure the Beyond Compliant Award under the national Gawad Kalasagprogram after receiving a Fully Compliant rating for three consecutive years.

Mayor Alicia Primicias-Enriquez led a coordination meeting with Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Shallom Gideon Balolong to discuss measures aimed at strengthening the town’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), a total of 419 emergency response operations were recorded in 2025, with medical emergencies accounting for the highest number at 204 cases.

Local officials also approved the implementation of an Emergency Medical Services Training Course along with specialized programs such as Mountain Search and Rescue and Incident Command System training to further enhance the skills of emergency responders.

The initiatives form part of the municipality’s continuing efforts to improve disaster risk reduction systems and emergency response readiness.
