Two of 12  persons hurt during an explosion that happened on a restaurant in Barangay Caranglaan last week are still at the intensive care unit (ICU) of a local hospital when the butane canister of a stove inside the establishment exploded.

This was reported to Mayor Belen Fernandez by Fire Chief Inspector June Wanawan, fire marshal of Dagupan, who said of the 12 persons injured, 11 are students of a local university, while the other is an employee of the establishment, who is one of the two persons still in the ICU.
Three of the injured were already discharged from the hospital, while seven others are still recuperating in the hospital;l, Wanawan said.
He said all the victims suffered two degree burns.
Wanawan said the incident happened when one of the students was just lighting a stove in order to cook their own food in front of them, unmindful of a gas leak from the butane canister.
The establishment is still close while the investigation of the case is ongoing.
The incident prompted the Bureau of Fire Protection- Dagupan to step up its inspection of all restaurants and eateries in the city,  focusing on their gas stoves to prevent an incident such as what happened in Caranglaan.
