MANILA – The remains of Marvil Facturan, the Filipino allegedly stabbed to death by her husband in a Slovenian lake town resort last year, will be repatriated this week at the earliest, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Tuesday.
In a radio interview, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega assured Facturan’s next of kin that the DFA would seek justice for the ill-fated Filipino.
“Nangako yung ating ambasador na hahabulin ang hustisya (Our ambassador has assured that they will seek justice for her),” he said.
De Vega said the victim’s husband, Mitja Kocjančič, who was tagged as the primary suspect is in the custody of local authorities.
Based on initial information, De Vega said he was “recovering from mental illness” and that reports citing money or insurance as reasons for the killing are not yet verified.
“Ang balita so far is nag-away at (she sustained) multiple stab wounds. Pero napakalungkot, kararating lang niya doon. Wala pa isang linggo (The news so far is they had an argument and that there were multiple stab wounds. It is saddening because they have just arrived there. They haven’t been there for a week),” he added.
While the agency is preparing the papers for Facturan’s repatriation, De Vega assured that the DFA would also extend necessary assistance to her family as an overseas Filipino.
The DFA would also shoulder the repatriation of her remains.
“Mayroon kaming i-aalok na ayuda o financial assistance sa pamilya. Standard ito ‘pag may namatay na Pilipino sa abroad, lalo na kung murder (We are offering aid or financial assistance. This is standard when a Filipino dies abroad, particularly if it is a murder case),” he said.
“Kung nakikinig ang nanay ay muli naming ipinapaabot ang aming nadalamhati sa inyo at gagawin natin ang lahat ng paraan na matulungan kayo (If Marvil’s mother is listening, we extend our deepest condolences and know that we will do everything that we can to help you),” he added. (PNA)
