Quezon City strengthened its campaign against the online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) through a year-end orientation under the REACT (Reduce Exploitation and Abuse of Children Together) project.
Held on December 18, the event was a collaboration between the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Barangay and Community Relations Department (BCRD). Speakers included Tina Jurado of the Philippine Children’s Ministries Network (PCMN), a coalition advocating for children’s rights and welfare, and Ginno Corral of ECPAT Philippines, which focuses on ending the sexual exploitation of children.
PESO head Rogelio L. Reyes emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between civil society organizations (CSOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the city in addressing OSAEC effectively.
Mary Anne Grace Rivera of BCRD discussed the accreditation process for CSOs and NGOs, highlighting their role in promoting good governance and strengthening community reporting mechanisms.
The orientation also tackled updates to Quezon City’s Children’s Code and ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration between NGOs and community representatives in safeguarding children’s welfare and rights.
