QC showcases comprehensive cancer initiatives

The Quezon City Government highlighted its comprehensive cancer initiatives during the Due Diligence assessment by the City Cancer Challenge (C/Can).

On December 10, C/Can Asia Regional Director Chika Kitajima and Global Program Manager Gvantsa Khizanishvili met with Quezon City officials, including Mayor Joy Belmonte, Dr. Herdee Luna, Dr. Maricar Sabeniano, and Dr. Gloria Cristal-Luna of the Philippine Cancer Society.

The Quezon city government was nominated by the Philippine Cancer Society for its strong cancer control programs. It is the first city in the country to pass an Integrated Cancer Control Ordinance (City Ordinance 3285-2024), which ensures a comprehensive approach to cancer care, covering everything from prevention to treatment.

Currently, Quezon City and its network of hospitals are undergoing due diligence to become part of the C/Can Cities initiative, which promotes city-led cancer solutions aimed at improving and sustaining access to equitable, high-quality cancer care.
