QC gov’t launches e-buses on free ride service

MANILA – The Quezon City government on Thursday has introduced six new electric buses to its free ride service.

Beginning January 2, 2025, these e-buses will operate along QCity Bus Route 1, between Quezon City Hall and Cubao.

“Simula January 2, 2025 ang mga brand new electric bus ng Quezon City Government na ang gagamitin sa Route 1 ng QCity Bus, na mula Quezon City Hall hanggang Cubao at (Starting January 2, 2025, the brand new electric buses of the Quezon City government will be used on Route 1 of the QCity Bus from Quezon City Hall to Cubao and) vice versa,” the city government said in a statement.

Each bus has a seating capacity of 41, along with wheelchair ramps for accessibility for persons with disability (PWDs).
It also has limited standing capacity to ensure the safety and comfort of its passengers.

Traffic enforcers from the city’s Traffic and Transport Management Department have been deployed to facilitate smooth operations.
Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized that the initiative aligns with Republic Act No. 11697, the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA Law), aimed at improving air quality and reducing pollution caused by traditional vehicles.

“Ang hakbang na ito ay alinsunod sa pagsisikap ng pamahalaang lungsod Quezon na alagaan ang ating kapaligiran, at bawasan ang polusyon mula sa mga tradisyonal na sasakyan (This step is in line with the Quezon city government’s efforts to take care of our environment, and reduce pollution from traditional vehicles),” she said.

Meanwhile, regular QCity buses will continue to give free rides to its residents through its other routes: between QC Hall to Litex/ IBP Road; Welcome Rotonda and Aurora Katipunan; QC Hall and General Luis; QC Hall and Mindanao Ave. via Visayas Ave; QC Hall and Gilmore; QC Hall and C5/Ortigas Ave. Extension; and between QC Hall and Muñoz. (PNA)
