QC announces road closures for CNY in Banawe Chinatown

MANILA – Several roads in Quezon City will be temporarily closed on Wednesday in celebration of the Chinese New Year along Banawe, the local government’s Chinatown.

The city government announced on Facebook that road closures will be in effect from midnight to 9 p.m. to accommodate festivities welcoming the Year of the Wooden Snake.

The roads closed to traffic are Del Monte Avenue corner Banawe Street Linaw Street corner Matutum Street, Banawe Street corner Scout Alcaraz Street, Biak na Bato Street corner Linaw Street, Sta. Catalina Street corner Palanan Street, and Sta. Catalina Street corner Ubay Street.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes, including the following: From Banawe Street (Quezon Avenue) to Del Monte Avenue via Sgt. Rivera Avenue, motorists can turn right to Scout Alcaraz Street, left to Biak na Bato Street, and continue to Del Monte Avenue; from Banawe Street (Quezon Avenue) to Del Monte Avenue via Mayon Street and A. Bonifacio Avenue, motorists may turn left to Scout Alcaraz Street, right to Matutum Street, and proceed to Del Monte Avenue; and from Banawe Street (G. Roxas Street) to Banawe Street via Quezon Avenue and Ma. Clara Street, motorists can take Del Monte Avenue, turn left to Matutum Street, left to Scout Alcaraz Street, and right to Banawe Street.

The celebration organized by the Tourism and Promotions Department will feature a grand bazaar, musical concert, cultural performances, traditional festivities and “food crawl” featuring Chinese restaurants that will offer their specialty dishes.

From Del Monte Avenue to Scout Alcaraz Street, visitors can explore a bazaar with 50 vendors offering authentic Chinese cuisine, artisanal products and lucky charms.

The Traffic and Transport Management Department and the Department of Public Order and Safety will dispatch staff to assist residents and visitors. (PNA)
