PNP-IAS vows fair probe on cop firing gun in middle of traffic

MANILA – The Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) on Sunday assured the public it is conducting an unbiased investigation on an officer who allegedly fired his gun in the middle of traffic in Makati Avenue, Makati City.
“We are exercising our motu proprio authority to thoroughly investigate this incident and address any lapses in operational procedures,” IAS Inspector General Brigido Dulay said in a statement.
Dulay said they will closely examine the events leading to the firearm discharge, focusing on potential violations of police procedures or misconduct.
“Our mission is twofold: To oversee the actions of PNP personnel and to preserve the public’s trust in the police force. Accountability is a cornerstone of our commitment to upholding the integrity of the PNP. Any officer found violating the law or standard procedures will face appropriate consequences,” he added.
ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro claimed that she personally witnessed the shooting from her car on the night of December 11 at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
She later corrected that it happened in Makati.
Castro alleged that a policeman, after stepping out of a patrol car, fired his weapon in an area crowded with civilians.
The chief of the Makati City Police Station, the commander of Sub-Station 6 and the officer involved have been relieved of their posts. (PNA)
