PH intensifies efforts to improve employment, skills dev’t

MANILA – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has reaffirmed the Philippine government’s commitment to enhancing quality employment opportunities and upskilling Filipino workers to meet global labor demands.

In a press release on Thursday, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac highlighted key government initiatives under President Ferdinand R.
Marcos Jr.’s leadership aimed at improving labor market conditions, when he spoke at Global Labor Market Conference 2025 Ministerial Roundtable in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“The Philippines has made remarkable strides in youth-driven initiatives and innovative, data-driven policies for quality employment opportunities,” Cacdac said during the roundtable discussion on Wednesday.

Among the notable programs, the Government Internship Program and JobStart Philippines have provided over 220,000 beneficiaries with work experience and skills enhancement, helping them transition into formal employment.

He also underscored the alignment of government training programs with industry needs, integrating advanced technologies and emerging industry skills to ensure Filipino workers remain competitive.

Beyond domestic efforts, Cacdac cited strong bilateral agreements with countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Canada, Japan, and South Korea, which open new opportunities for Filipino workers while ensuring ethical labor mobility.

Meanwhile, President Marcos, speaking at the Career Conference 2025 in Pasay City on Wednesday, stressed the importance of reskilling and upskilling to help Filipinos secure quality, sustainable jobs with better career growth prospects. (PNA)
