Over three days from October 25 to 27, police in Region 7 executed a series of successful drug raids, resulting in the seizure of illicit substances valued at approximately PHP 8.5 million. In addition to confiscating narcotics, authorities arrested 256 individuals involved in drug trafficking, illegal gambling, and other criminal activities, underscoring the region’s ongoing battle against organized crime.
According to PBGen Anthony Aberin, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7), the operations targeted not only drug dealers but also sought out individuals wanted for other crimes. “Our approach is comprehensive, aiming to safeguard public safety and ensure that we take a proactive stance against criminal activities,” Aberin stated during a press briefing.
The operations were particularly focused on narcotics, with police confiscating a substantial 1, 262.51 grams of shabu, or methamphetamine, the most commonly abused drug in the Philippines. The drugs seized during the raids were valued at PHP 8, 585, 000, a stark reminder of the pervasiveness of the drug trade in many communities. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has long warned about the increasing supply of methamphetamine and its damaging effects on local populations.
While the anti-drug operations garnered attention, the arrests extended beyond drug-related crimes. Among the 256 detained individuals, 57 were identified as wanted persons, including five on the national “Most Wanted” list. This coordinated crackdown highlights the police force’s commitment to reducing crime rates across the region. However, as local authorities work to dismantle criminal networks, questions about long-term solutions to prevent future criminal activity remain a priority for residents and law enforcement alike.
