PCG files administrative raps vs. operators of sunken tankers

MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has filed administrative cases against the operators of two tankers that sank in the waters of Bataan in July.

In a situation update on Tuesday, the PCG said these complaints had been filed against the operators of MV Mirola 1 and MTKR Jason Bradley for failing to accomplish the Master’s declaration of safety departure and leaving port without pre-departure inspection and clearance from the PCG.

Both are violations under PCG Memorandum Circular (MC) 05-12 and MC 07-12, respectively.

MV Mirola 1 is currently docked at the Diving Industry Shipyard in Barangay Alas-asin, Mariveles, Bataan, and is currently detained under the custody of PCG Station Bataan.

It ordered the operator of the said vessel to submit proof of ownership as part of due process.

On the other hand, MTKR Jason Bradley is docked at Orion Dockyard in Orion, Bataan after it was successfully refloated on September 25 and boarded by the PCG, the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for an oil sampling.

The PCG Station Bataan has coordinated with the BOC to ensure proper inventory and secure a warrant of seizure and detention for the vessel.

The Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspection and Marine Environmental Protection also witnessed the inventory process.

The MTKR Jason Bradley is currently detained under the custody of the PCG unit in Orion, Bataan. (PNA)
