Pasig River rehab includes housing, transport plans

DHSUD Assistant Secretary Johnson Domingo, representing Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, presides over the 5th Inter-Agency Council Meeting for the Pasig River Urban Development dubbed Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli Project on Thursday. The meeting highlighted recent updates on the rehabilitation efforts along the Pasig River, including housing initiatives for informal settlers.

A key part of the project is ensuring that communities affected by the rehabilitation are provided with adequate housing. DHSUD Secretary Acuzar emphasized, “As we enhance the Pasig River, we are also ensuring proper housing solutions for those displaced.” Construction of nearly 50,000 housing units in the Port Area is already underway, nearing completion.

Also in attendance at the meeting were DBM Undersecretary Rolando Toledo, DILG Undersecretary Odilon Luis Pasaraba, MMDA Deputy Chairman Frisco San Juan Jr., and other representatives from government agencies.

This effort is part of the larger “Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli” initiative, which includes the creation of pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, green spaces, bike lanes, and a water taxi system, making the river a viable transportation route akin to EDSA. The project’s ultimate goal is to boost economic opportunities, tourism, and improve the quality of life along the river’s banks.
