The Pasig City Government held the culminating activity for its innovation project, funded by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), on December 17 at the Temporary Pasig City Hall. The project, titled “Citizen-Centric Traffic and Infrastructure Monitoring System for Long-Term, Sustainable Urban Mobility and City Planning in Pasig City,” is one of 25 initiatives selected for funding under NEDA’s 2023 Innovation Grants.
In partnership with Mobility Vision Plus (MoVi+), the project aims to enhance data-driven decision-making, increase citizen participation, and improve the efficiency and sustainability of transport planning and traffic management in Pasig City. Mayor Vico Sotto, NEDA Undersecretary Rosemarie G. Edillon, PhD, and Transport Economist Dr. Robert Siy Jr. attended the event, expressing their shared vision of creating a safer, more efficient, and inclusive transportation system for the city.
As part of the event, Dr. Syrus Gomari, CEO and Founder of MoVi+, introduced the MoVi+ app. The app employs advanced technologies, such as AI-automated classified traffic counts, to gather data on people and vehicle movement, crucial for transportation-related projects. By utilizing smartphones and CCTV cameras, the app eliminates the need for manual data collection by government employees, offering more accurate results. Additionally, the app enables citizens to report real-time mobility and transportation issues, providing valuable input for infrastructure planning.
Following the activity, a public consultation organized by CONCEP Inc., a private design and planning firm, was held to discuss the Local Public Transport Route Plan. Representatives from the city government, barangays, and transport groups participated, focusing on the current state of traffic and transportation in Pasig. Participants also provided suggestions for improving the city’s mobility system, ensuring the community’s voice is heard in shaping future transport initiatives.
