Palawan holds inaugural summit for disaster risk reduction volunteers

Volunteers from across Palawan participated in the province’s first Disaster Risk Reduction Auxiliary Summit on Sunday at the Capitol Convention Center.

The event was organized by Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Jeremias Y. Alili to recognize the contributions of volunteers to disaster preparedness and response.

Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) Executive Director Donald James Gawe delivered the keynote address, focusing on the role of volunteerism in economic and social development.

The summit featured presentations, talks, and a cultural show. Socrates, in his speech, thanked the volunteers and emphasized the importance of collective efforts to ensure safety amid potential disasters.

The event coincided with the 2024 National Volunteer Month, which carries the theme “Igniting Volunteer-led Innovation for Deep Economic and Social Transformation.”
