P706-M aid given to families affected by weather disturbances

MANILA – Some PHP706.09 million worth of assistance has been provided to families affected by the effects of the southwest monsoon (habagat) and Typhoons Butchoy and Carina that devastated a large part of the country last July, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

In its latest update, the agency said there were about 1,020,747 families affected from Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, Caraga, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and National Capital Region (NCR).

“Due to the undetermined number of families requiring assistance in some regions, the total number of families and corresponding percentage are yet to be determined,” the NDRRMC said.

The aid extended included food and non-food items. The number of reported deaths is placed at 48, of which only 14 are confirmed as of this time.

Damaged houses are placed at 8,592 and these were incurred in 15 regions nationwide.

Damage to agriculture in 12 regions was estimated at PHP2.06 billion and infrastructure in 11 regions at over PHP4.4 billion. (PNA)
