P10-M ‘kush’ hidden in parcel from US seized in Parañaque

MANILA – Authorities on Thursday intercepted a shipment containing high-grade marijuana or “kush” with an estimated street value of PHP 10 million in Parañaque City.

In a statement, Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) chief Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said the total weight of the seized substance was approximately 7, 154 grams, with an estimated street value of PHP 10, 015, 600.00.

Operatives detailed at the NAIA-Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG), along with personnel from the Intelligence Foreign and Liaison Division (IFLD) of the PNP DEG conducted the operation at a Cargohaus facility located in Liwanag, Parañaque City.

According to reports, the suspected parcel originated from an alleged tea company based in Ohio, USA, and was addressed to a recipient in the said city.

Law enforcement units discovered two parcels concealed within foiled packs labeled “Jasmine Pearls Green Tea” and “Herbal Teas.”

“The interception of this major drug shipment is a significant setback for criminal networks and a crucial win for public safety. This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting families from the dangers of illegal drugs. We will continue to dismantle these networks to ensure a safer future for all,” said Matta.

Matta said the illegal drugs were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for proper disposition and filing of charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165) in relation to the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (RA 10863) against those involved in the illegal shipment. (PNA)
