“Crisis doesn’t create leaders, it reveals them.”

This truth feels especially clear as we, like much of the world, face mounting challenges brought about by the war in the Middle East.

Amid this crisis, watch the leaders who act, help, and listen to the needs of our people. But also notice those who carry on as if nothing is happening — preoccupied with their own interests because they are insulated from rising fuel prices, looming inflation, and the livelihoods at risk for many of our kababayan.

But we take note of the newly adopted Senate Resolution No. 343 in the chamber this week. For once, politics was set aside as senators united in urging the Executive Branch to establish a National Contingency Framework to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response to global crises. It’s a welcome move to shake the government out of complacency and push it to step up in this situation.

This crisis is a litmus test on discerning who truly has the heart to serve and who is only after political clout. When the 2028 elections come, remember to vote for those who are selfless and genuinely committed to public service.
