DAVAO CITY – The National Durian Industry Summit, scheduled on Wednesday aims to strengthen the Philippines’ position in the global durian market.
The two-day event, hosted by the Durian Industry Association of Davao City (DIADC), Davao City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgrO) and Department of Agriculture, will bring together farmers, traders, and industry experts to enhance the durian sector.
“Our plenary speakers will share valuable insights and experience, offering a roadmap to unlock the full potential of the Philippines’ durian industry,” organizers said in a Facebook post.
Speakers from Malaysia and Thailand, two of the world’s leading durian exporters, will address quality concerns and opportunities for the Philippine durian industry.
Fe Oguio, CAgrO’s durian and cacao focal person, said the summit will focus on improving the quality of durian produced in Davao City, noting that while local durians are of good quality, they have yet to achieve the top grades of A and B.
“Our durian industry is still young, so we are focusing on quality parameters to help the sector grow,” Oguio said. “The summit will serve as a platform for stakeholders to discuss key issues and challenges.”
Oguio said the event will also feature an exhibit showcasing companies involved in smart agriculture, with an emphasis on incorporating technology into local farming practices.
Financial institutions will be on hand to connect industry players with potential financial partners. (PNA)
