The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) hosted a Power 101 Seminar on November 28, 2024, at Siargao Island Villas in General Luna, Surigao del Norte. The seminar, held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, aimed to educate participants about the power sector, highlight NGCP’s role, and provide updates on current and future grid improvement initiatives.
The seminar is part of NGCP’s nationwide campaign designed to address power-related issues and enhance public understanding of transmission operations. Among the key topics discussed were NGCP’s overall performance, transmission charges, power interruptions, and transmitter line safety reminders. The event also tackled legislative measures such as Republic Act No. 7832, known as the Anti-Pilferage Act, and Republic Act No. 11361, or the Anti-Obstruction of Power Lines Act.
Several high-ranking officials from NGCP were present at the seminar to share insights and answer questions from the participants. These officials included Kristoffer Eric Abellanosa, who serves as the Government Relations and Regional Affairs Officer; Fernando Javier, the Senior Manager of the Transmission Planning Department; and Atty. Cynthia Albanza, the Assistant Vice President and Head of the Public Relations Department. Atty. Edgar Allan Fronda, the Network Operations Senior Manager for Mindanao Operations, also joined the event, along with Xyren Mark Loquinte, who handles System Integration and Operations Management for Mindanao System Operations. Aris Delegencia, the Transmission Line Manager for District 4 Northeastern Mindanao Area, also provided key updates and information.
The seminar brought together media representatives and information officers to foster collaboration and ensure a clear understanding of NGCP’s initiatives and responsibilities. Participants were given an overview of the transmission system’s role in the power sector, including efforts to improve grid reliability and address power-related challenges.
The event also served as an opportunity for stakeholders to raise concerns and engage in meaningful discussions with NGCP officials. Issues such as power interruptions and grid safety were thoroughly addressed, with NGCP representatives providing detailed explanations of ongoing and future improvement projects.
