New wage hike in Region 1 to take effect on November 7

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) of the Ilocos Region (Region 1) has approved a new daily minimum wage hike under Wage Order No. RB 1-23. The wage order, issued on October 9, 2024, grants a P33 increase in the daily minimum wage across all sectors, which will take effect on November 7, 2024.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 1’s official Facebook page, the wage adjustment will raise the daily minimum wage to P468 for non-agriculture businesses employing 10 or more workers, and to P435 for smaller non-agricultural businesses and the agriculture sector.

In addition, the RTWPB has also approved Wage Order No. RB 1-DW-05, which increases the monthly minimum wage for domestic workers (kasambahays) in Region 1 by P500, bringing their new monthly salary to P6, 000.

This wage adjustment aims to address inflationary pressures and improve the living standards of workers in the region. The decision aligns with the government’s efforts to balance the needs of workers while considering the capacity of businesses in the region, particularly in light of current economic conditions.

The wage hike is part of the ongoing nationwide efforts to ensure that wages are aligned with the rising costs of living, a significant concern for the workforce across various regions of the Philippines. The increase is expected to impact thousands of workers across Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan, ensuring that they receive fair compensation for their labor.

The adjustment also reflects the importance of domestic workers, highlighting their role in many Filipino households while ensuring they receive equitable compensation.

As the implementation date approaches, both workers and employers are encouraged to stay informed about the specific provisions of the new wage orders to ensure compliance and a smooth transition.

This wage hike comes as the whole country continues to grapple with high inflation rates.
