A newly inaugurated PHP54.4-million two-story facility for the Philippine Army’s 31st Infantry Battalion, part of the 9th Infantry Division (9ID), is expected to enhance the morale and operational efficiency of troops stationed in Daraga, Albay. The building was officially opened and blessed on December 1.
Ako Bicol Party-list Representative and House Appropriations Committee Chair Elizaldy Co turned over the symbolic key to the facility during the ceremony. Co emphasized that the new building reflects the collaborative efforts of the government and the community to support the Philippine Army’s mission of maintaining peace and security in the region.
“We are not just celebrating a new facility but also recognizing the partnership between the Philippine Army, the government, and communities in safeguarding peace in our region,” Co said. He lauded the soldiers for their dedication and commitment to protecting the public, particularly in countering insurgency.
Co also acknowledged the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in prioritizing initiatives to improve the welfare and operational capabilities of the Philippine Army. “This administration continues to prioritize the strengthening of our Army and improving the conditions of our soldiers,” he added.
Maj. Gen. Noe Alberto Peñafiel, commander of the 9ID, expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives for its ongoing support. He described the facility as more than just a command center, highlighting its role as a modern and secure space for planning and executing operations efficiently.
“This building is a significant investment in our national defense. It will serve as a functional and secure hub for operations, enhancing our ability to address security challenges effectively,” Peñafiel said.
The development of the camp, including this new facility, is part of 22 infrastructure projects designed to support the 9ID. These initiatives aim to bolster soldier morale and operational capability in combating insurgency across the Bicol region.
