MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two infrastructure projects to support agricultural productivity and enhance flood resilience in the municipalities of Lasam and Claveria, Cagayan.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH-Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) officer-in-charge Director Mathias Malenab said these projects, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), reflect the government’s commitment to improving public safety, agricultural transportation, and resilience against natural calamities in the province.
One of the completed projects is the San Pedro-Magsaysay-Cabatacan West Barangay Road to Jct. Logac-Lasam-Gagabutan Road, designed to bolster local agricultural productivity by improving transportation access in Lasam, an area known for its banana, coconut, and cacao plantations.
The road project involves concreting a 655-linear-meter road with a width of 6.7 meters and a thickness of 0.28 meters, which now provides safer, smoother, and more convenient travel for residents and travellers, particularly facilitating efficient movement of goods from farms to markets.
Another project, the Union Flood Control Structure along the Cadcadir River, was built to address frequent flooding affecting properties and agricultural lands in Claveria.
The 182-linear-meter flood control structure includes strategically placed gabions to enhance its resilience against erosion.
Both the San Pedro-Magsaysay-Cabatacan West Road project in Lasam and the union flood control structure along the Cadcadir River in Claveria were implemented by the Cagayan 2nd District Engineering Office under District Engineer Rellie Dalmaceda. (PR)
