Negros Power has announced plans to begin an underground cabling project along Lacson Street in Bacolod City in early 2025. The initiative, aimed at improving the city’s power distribution system, is expected to enhance the aesthetics, safety, and reliability of one of Bacolod’s busiest streets.
Lacson Street, known for its vibrant dining and business scene, is a major thoroughfare connecting several key areas within the city. The underground cabling project is part of a larger strategy by the city and private partners to upgrade urban infrastructure and address challenges such as power outages, storm damage, and the clutter of overhead power lines.
By relocating power lines underground, the project aims to reduce disruptions caused by weather-related incidents like typhoons, which frequently affect Bacolod. Underground cables offer improved resilience and a cleaner appearance, contributing to a more disaster-resistant and visually appealing environment.
The project will cover a section of Lacson Street, from San Sebastian Street to B.S. Aquino Drive, an area with a mix of commercial, dining, and residential spaces. The installation of new cables, transformers, and power distribution systems will also improve the efficiency and safety of the city’s electrical network. Construction work will be phased to minimize disruptions to local businesses and residents.
Bacolod City, which has seen growth in both commercial and residential development, continues to invest in modern infrastructure to support its expanding population and attract further investments. The underground cabling project is a key step in Bacolod’s efforts to enhance its infrastructure, ensuring it remains a reliable and resilient urban center.
