NDRRMC: deaths from 2 cyclones climb to 141, over 7-M affected

MANILA – The death toll from the combined effects of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami) and Super Typhoon Leon (international name Kong-rey) which battered most of Luzon has climbed to 141, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

The figure includes 14 confirmed fatalities and another 127 undergoing validation, according to the agency’s latest situation report.

Meanwhile, the number of injured persons stands at 86, of which only 10 have so far been validated. Undergoing verification are reports of 21 missing persons.

Meanwhile, families affected are placed at 1, 892, 226 in 10, 921 barangays in 17 regions, equivalent to 7, 494, 023 persons.

Meanwhile, the amount of assistance provided by the national government, local government units and non-government organization for victims of these weather disturbances has reached over PhP 895 million. (PNA)
