NBI nabs Marawi vice mayor for murder

MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday announced the arrest of the Marawi City vice mayor who is wanted for murder and attempted murder in 2013.

In a statement, the NBI said Anwar Romuros (a.k.a. Anouar Abdulrauf) was arrested on Monday at the city’s Hall of Justice after the flag-raising ceremony pursuant to a warrant issued by the Caloocan City Regional Trial Court.

The arrest was made possible with the help of the Philippine Army, Task Force Marawi and Task Force Oro Cagayan De Oro City.

The cases of murder and attempted murder stemmed from a legitimate service of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Dangerous Drugs Act) by the NBI in Tala, Caloocan City in 2013.

NBI agents were already implementing the warrant when a group of armed individuals, led by Romuros, opened fire and killed one Latip Sultan and wounded several others.

The cases were filed by Sultan’s wife.

The witness in the case, Abdulraof Alim Dimaporo, positively identified the incumbent vice mayor.

The NBI said the other co-accused are at-large. (PNA)
