The City Government of Navotas, through its City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), conducted a seminar-workshop on December 18 to update its 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan.
The event covered topics such as waste collection flow, waste diversion, and at-source segregation. Participants also discussed strategies to improve solid waste management in the city.
Representatives from barangays, the Philippine Red Cross, Mother Earth Foundation (MEF), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), PHILECO, UN Habitat, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) attended the seminar.
Earlier this year, Navotas signed a memorandum of agreement with MEF and the DENR Environmental Management Bureau – National Capital Region to implement an ecological solid waste management program across its 18 barangays. The agreement includes training sessions and technical support to strengthen the city’s waste management initiatives.
In July, the city partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) to deploy the Aqua Trash Collector Bot (AQUABOT) in Barangay NBBS Dagat-Dagatan. The device is designed to collect up to 20 kilograms of solid waste per hour from waterways.
The seminar-workshop is part of Navotas’ efforts to comply with national waste management directives.
