Muntinlupa intensifies campaign vs firecrackers, modified mufflers

The Muntinlupa City Government has intensified its campaign against the sale and use of firecrackers and vehicles with modified mufflers emitting loud noise. On December 23 and 24, authorities seized 85 “boga” (improvised noise-making devices), 100 pieces of Five Star, and 200 pieces of Piccolo.

Muntinlupa City Ordinance No. 14-092 prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession, or use of firecrackers and similar devices within the city’s jurisdiction. Violators face fines ranging from PHP 1,000 to PHP 5,000. The public is encouraged to use alternative noise-makers, such as horns, musical instruments, and household items, to ensure a safe New Year celebration.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has also been on Code Red alert since December 23, 2024, urging the public to use alternative sound-making devices to greet the New Year safely.

In support of the city’s efforts, the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau (MTMB) has been actively enforcing the ordinance against the use of modified mufflers and open pipes, apprehending violators to maintain peace and order during the holiday season.

Residents are reminded to comply with local regulations to ensure a safe and peaceful New Year celebration.
