The provincial government of Camiguin is advising residents to closely monitor their water consumption to avoid unexpected spikes in water bills, particularly in light of recent complaints about increased charges.
Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo issued a statement Thursday encouraging households and businesses to request inspections from the Camiguin Water Company (CWC) if they suspect leaks or other issues that might inflate water usage. These leaks, often unnoticed, can lead to higher-than-expected bills.
“We want to ensure residents are well-informed about their water usage to prevent misunderstandings regarding billing,” Romualdo emphasized.
Jonathan Sarsonas, CWC General Manager, clarified that water bills are calculated solely on the actual consumption measured by each household’s water meter. “You only pay for what the meter registers,” Sarsonas assured, addressing concerns over billing accuracy.
Ariel Balbutin, CWC’s head of commercial operations, noted that undetected leaks are a common reason for sudden increases in water bills. He urged consumers to promptly report any suspected issues either by visiting the CWC office or contacting the company’s hotlines.
Camiguin, a small island province known for its natural springs and volcanic landscape, relies heavily on sustainable water management. This reminder comes as part of the local government’s effort to address infrastructure challenges and ensure residents have access to reliable water resources without incurring undue costs.
