The provincial government of Misamis Oriental and the city government of Cagayan de Oro have expressed their support for the empowerment of barangay information officers (BIOs) to enhance the dissemination of government information to communities.
During the Bagong Pilipinas Barangay Information Officers Network (BION) event on Thursday, November 21, 2024, local officials emphasized the crucial role of BIOs in bridging the gap between the government and the people.
Misamis Oriental Information Office Consultant Roy Waga highlighted the importance of BIOs in promoting government initiatives, particularly the province’s single-digit poverty incidence plan.
Cagayan de Oro City Administrator Roy Hilario Raagas stressed the significance of BION in fostering communication and community involvement.
The event, organized by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) through the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), aimed to empower BIOs from Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental.
PCO Assistant Secretary Rowena Hidalgo-Otida underscored the role of the Bagong Pilipinas brand of governance in fostering trust between the government and the people and in setting high standards for personal, community, and national life.
