Metro Manila crime rate drops by 23% in six-month period

The crime rate in Metro Manila dropped by 23.13 percent over a six-month period from November 23, 2024 to May 23, 2025, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

In a statement issued on Saturday, NCRPO Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said a total of 2,589 crime incidents were recorded during the period, down from 3,368 cases reported in the same timeframe last year. The decrease translates to 779 fewer incidents covering major crime categories such as murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping.

Aberin attributed the decline to enhanced police training and resource allocation, proactive crime deterrence measures, rapid law enforcement response, and strong partnerships with local communities and stakeholders.

Among the major crimes, murder dropped by 25 percent, homicide by 19.18 percent, physical injuries by 25.75 percent, rape by 29.28 percent, theft by 25.51 percent, and robbery by 16.99 percent. Carnapping involving motor vehicles decreased by 11.11 percent, although there was a slight increase of 5.38 percent in motorcycle carnapping cases.

The region’s crime solution efficiency slightly increased from 69.04 percent to 69.64 percent, while crime clearance efficiency registered a minor decline from 99.67 percent to 99.15 percent.

Aberin said the continued progress demonstrates the impact of strategic direction and unified action among law enforcement personnel and communities, stating that the NCRPO remains committed to ensuring lasting peace and security across Metro Manila.
