Medical mission provides health services to remote Nunungan communities

By William Agda

A medical mission was conducted in Nunungan, Lanao del Norte, providing essential health services to underserved residents of the municipality.

The initiative, led by the Local Government Unit (LGU) under Mayor Marcos Mamay, involved the Rural Health Unit (RHU) team headed by Municipal Health Officer (MHO) Dr. Princess Fabricante. Doctors Shaira Babes Cañete and Aliya Mamay also participated, working with volunteers to deliver medical services.

Services included consultations, medication distribution, immunizations, and health education. Residents from surrounding barangays attended the event, accessing free basic medical care and treatments for common ailments.

The medical mission, held at a designated venue in Nunungan, addressed healthcare challenges faced by the municipality’s rural population. Access to healthcare in Nunungan is often limited due to its remote location, making the mission a significant effort to provide medical assistance to residents in need.

Local government units and non-governmental organizations frequently organize medical missions in rural areas of the Philippines to address healthcare disparities. These initiatives remain vital in improving public health in remote communities where access to medical facilities is limited.
