Mayon Volcano emitted an ash plume approximately 1,600 meters above its summit crater Tuesday morning as authorities maintained Alert Level 3.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded the emission beginning at 8:22 a.m. on November 3. The plume drifted southwest, according to observations reported by GMA News.
Mayon entered a new phase of magmatic eruption on October 30, when a moderately explosive event prompted PHIVOLCS to raise its alert status.
The agency recommended evacuation of the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone because of possible lava flows, rockfalls and fast-moving currents of hot volcanic material. It also warned of lahars along drainage channels and advised aircraft to avoid the summit.
Displaced families in Albay have been receiving food and hygiene supplies in temporary shelters. Relief operations were continuing in Tabaco City and Camalig as volcanic unrest persisted.
