Davao Oriental State University (DORSU) and Mati City have joined forces to promote halal tourism and hospitality services in the area. The two institutions signed a five-year memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Monday, November 18, 2024.
The partnership aims to position Mati City as a leading destination for halal tourism in Mindanao. DORSU’s Center for Tourism Information, Education, and Communication (CTIEC) will provide technical expertise and educational support to the City Tourism and Promotions Office.
Mayor Michelle Rabat emphasized the importance of this partnership in promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism. By focusing on halal tourism, the city aims to cater to the needs of Muslim travelers and boost the local economy.
The collaboration will involve various initiatives, including capacity building for tourism stakeholders, research on halal tourism trends, and the development of halal-certified products and services.
