President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed all Cabinet secretaries to submit their courtesy resignations to allow for a full performance review and realignment of his administration after the 2025 midterm elections, Malacañang announced Thursday.
According to the Palace, the move is intended to “recalibrate” the administration’s priorities based on the electorate’s expectations. “This is not business as usual,” Marcos said. “It’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations.”
The directive comes days after Marcos hinted in the first episode of his “BBM Podcast” that his Cabinet members would undergo a performance assessment.
“This is not about personalities—it’s about performance, alignment, and urgency,” Marcos said in a statement released by Malacañang. The courtesy resignations, he added, would provide the necessary latitude to determine which officials will remain in their posts as the administration shifts toward a more performance-focused approach.
While Marcos acknowledged that many Cabinet members have served with professionalism and commitment, he emphasized the need for a “renewed alignment, faster execution, and a results-first mindset.”
Cabinet officials who continue to perform well will be retained and recognized, he added, but warned against complacency. “The time for comfort zones is over. The people have spoken, and they expect results—not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act.”
The Palace assured that the delivery of public services will remain uninterrupted during the transition and reiterated that the formation of a restructured Cabinet will be guided by principles of stability, continuity, and meritocracy.
“With this bold reset, the Marcos administration signals a new phase—sharper, faster, and fully focused on the people’s most pressing needs,” the Palace said.
