MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday expressed hope that peace will once again reign over Ukraine as Russia’s full-scale invasion reached its 1000th day.
In a statement posted on social media, Marcos recounted his meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in June.
“Yesterday marked the 1,000th day since the war in Ukraine began. In my meeting with President (Zelenskyy) on June 3rd, I reiterated the PH’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity,” Marcos said.
Zelenskyy visited Manila on June 3 and met with Marcos in Malacañang.
He thanked Marcos for the Philippines’ support and recognition of Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Ever since the war between Moscow and Kyiv broke out more than two years ago, Manila has voted in favor of the six resolutions of the UN General Assembly Emergency Special Session on Ukraine and has consistently supported Kyiv’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
“It is our hope that we will see comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine,” Marcos said.
“Ukraine is our valued partner, and our relations continue to go from strength to strength.”
Russia launched in February 2022 a full-scale invasion of its neighbor Ukraine, setting off one of the bloodiest and most destructive conflicts since the Second World War. (PNA)
