The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Manila successfully conducted a series of workshops titled “Designing with Canva and Crafting Digital Parent Activities for Safe Online Learning” to enhance educators’ skills in utilizing digital tools for literacy and numeracy. The workshops, held in three batches, took place from November 8 to December 15, 2024, across three venues: Century Park Hotel, Golden Phoenix Hotel, and Manila Prince Hotel.
The first session, from November 8 to 10, involved 85 Elementary Science Teachers and 14 ICT Teachers. The second batch, held on November 22 to 24, engaged 89 Elementary English Teachers and 10 ICT Teachers, while the final session, on December 14 to 15, catered to 91 Mathematics Teachers and 10 ICT Teachers. This initiative was part of the Pro Digital LOOP Project, a collaboration among GEMS HEART, ChildFund Philippines, and ChildFund Korea, designed to empower educators to create safe, effective, and engaging online learning environments.
The workshops featured key sessions, including Digi-PACT (Digital Parent Activities for Safe Online Learning) led by Ms. Marlene Floresca, Senior Education Specialist at ChildFund, and an online safety discussion by Mr. Allan Nuñez, Senior Advocacy and Child Protection Specialist. Hands-on activities using Canva were facilitated by Mr. Albert James Macaraeg, Project Development Officer II at SDO Manila, and IT experts from Far Eastern University. Teachers developed interactive lesson plans and strategies to integrate digital tools into home-based learning programs.
SDO Manila expressed appreciation for the “partnership and the dedication shown by GEMS HEART, ChildFund, and the participating educators in advancing online education and child safety in digital spaces.”
