MANILA – The city government of Manila on Thursday inaugurated a 20-storey housing project near the University Belt (U-Belt) that is open for all qualified city residents.
“You might think, this is only for employees, it’s not. This is open to everyone who wants to have their own home. You are welcome. You just need to contact the Manila Urban Settlements Office (MUSO),” Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said during the inauguration of the San Sebastian Residences.
According to Lacuna, she ordered a change in the former policy of having residents rent forever to “rent to own” wherein the occupants finally have a chance at ownership once they have paid the full cost of the unit.
Present during the event were Vice Mayor Yul Servo, MUSO chief Danny de Guzman, third district Councilors Fa Fugoso, Maile Atienza and Jong Isip, among others.
During the event, the officials assisted Lacuna in the formal awarding of the units to the initial 20 city hall employees.
City Engineer Moises Alcantara said the San Sebastian Residences has 243 residential units, 57 parking slots, four elevator units, a swimming pool, an activity and outdoor area, a function room, fitness room admin office, roof deck and a sewage treatment plant. (PNA)
