Manila LGU halts biz inspections for holiday season

MANILA – The city government of Manila ordered a suspension of inspections on business establishments for the holiday season.

City Administrator Bernie Ang said Wednesday he has issued a memorandum on the measure to all concerned offices.

In a statement, Ang said the order came from Mayor Honey Lacuna and is aimed at ensuring unhampered operations for all businesses operating within the city, as it is only during the Christmas season when businesses peak.

The prohibition on all inspections takes effect immediately and covers all establishments, including shopping malls where stalls are located.

He added the move would also thwart attempts by unscrupulous individuals who harass and extort business establishments by posing as city hall inspectors.

At the same time, the Manila City official also warned that violators will be dealt with accordingly.

Ang also appealed to business establishment owners to report to the city those posing as inspectors and for them to take photos or videos of the poseurs so that the matter can be acted upon immediately. (PNA)
