Manila animal shelter and city pound at the New Vitas slaughterhouse opens

On November 5, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan officially opened the newly constructed Manila Animal Shelter and City Pound, along with the upgraded Vitas Slaughterhouse, situated at Barangay Vitas in Tondo.

The newly built animal shelter features dedicated rooms for surgeries, a laboratory, an X-ray facility, grooming stations, and a cage area that can accommodate up to 84 dogs and cats, along with an isolation room for sick animals.

In addition to the regular free services provided by the Veterinary Inspection Board, including check-ups, anti-rabies vaccinations, and deworming, the shelter now also includes a crematorium, offering a valuable service for pet owners in the future.

The renovated slaughterhouse will ensure a safer and a more hygienic slaughtering process for cattle, carabaos, and pigs, raising the standards of meat production and ensuring higher-quality food for the residents of Manila.
