MANILA – A mall security guard may have his license revoked for kicking a young female vendor and destroying her sampaguita garlands, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday.
PNP Civil Security Group spokesperson Lt. Col. Eudisan Gultiano said based on assessment, the guard possibly violated ethical standards and conduct in performing his duty.
“There is a violation of ethical standards, professional security creed and we would also determine whether there is a violation of special laws and if we can add these to the administrative complaint to the SOSIA (Supervisory Office On Security And Investigation Agency),” Gultiano told reporters in Camp Crame.
The SOSIA is the PNP office in charge of licensing private security agencies.
They are also looking into the possible liability of the security agency employing the guard.
“We would invite the security agency because we would want to know whether the rules and regulations on proper decorum and ethical standards are being relayed to their security guards,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mandaluyong City Police Chief Col. Grace Madayag said she has directed investigators to probe the incident.
“There is no complainant yet but I asked our investigators to go to SM Megamall to identify the involved child. I also asked them to check the school of the student,” she said.
SM Megamall expressed regret over the incident.
“We have called the attention of the security agency to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation. The security guard has been dismissed and will no longer be allowed to service any of our malls,” it said in a statement.
The video that went viral on social media showed the mall security guard driving away the girl who was sitting outside the establishment’s entrance.
When the girl stood up, the security guard suddenly snatched and destroyed her sampaguita garlands.
The girl hit the security guard with the destroyed flowers, prompting him to retaliate physically. (PNA)
