On January 5, 2025, a fire broke out in Flovi Homes, Phase 6, Letre, Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon City, affecting 15 families. The blaze, which started around 2:36 p.m., was raised to the first alarm and was extinguished by 3:14 p.m., burning six houses.
In response, Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, accompanied by former Congressman Ricky Sandoval and the Barangay Tonsuya council, visited the affected area to provide assistance. The beneficiaries received food packs containing rice, coffee, canned goods, bottled water, and noodles, along with non-food items such as hygiene kits. The city’s Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD) also provided hot meals, tents to the displaced families.
Mayor Sandoval emphasized the importance of safety precautions, especially during the New Year celebrations. She urged residents to exercise extra caution with appliances, gadgets, and fireworks to prevent such incidents. “As the New Year approaches, incidents like these can sometimes be unavoidable. That’s why we must exercise extra caution, especially with our appliances and gadgets, as well as fireworks,” Sandoval said.
Following the incident, CSWDD personnel conducted an assessment to identify the needs of the affected families. Apart from the relief goods, financial aid and shelter kits will also be provided to the fire victims. Mayor Sandoval assured the victims that the city government is always ready to help and support them in their recovery. “To those affected by the fire, rest assured that the city government is always ready to help and support you in your recovery. We are here for you,” she added.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities have reminded residents to remain vigilant and practice safety precautions, including ensuring candles are extinguished when not in use and unplugging electrical devices and appliances to prevent similar incidents.
