Makati Mayor Abby Binay has condemned a misleading Facebook post by Streetlife Manila, which used an outdated two-year-old photo to create a negative impression of the Makati city government.
Mayor Binay instructed the city Law Department to explore filing charges against the creators and administrators of Streetlife Manila, as well as those who shared the false post.
The Facebook post depicted a clamped motorcycle with a caption suggesting that instead of helping the driver with a broken chain, an enforcer clamped the vehicle and issued a ticket. Mayor Abby clarified that the incident involved the Makati Parking Authority (MAPA), a private corporation, and not the city’s Public Safety Department (PSD). The photo, which went viral, did not accurately reflect the incident’s outcome.
According to MAPA’s investigation, their enforcers had found the motorcycle abandoned, clamped it, but later removed the clamp without issuing a violation ticket when they learned the driver was buying spare parts.
Mayor Binay emphasized the importance of responsible digital content creation and criticized Streetlife Manila for spreading false information, which has led to online abuse and harassment of city officials and employees.
