Magnitude 5.7 quake rocks Tarlac

MANILA – A magnitude 5.7 earthquake jolted Tarlac province Thursday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor struck 3 km. east of Tarlac City at 5:58 a.m.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 199 km.

The following instrumental intensities were recorded:

Intensity III- Bani, Pangasinan;

Intensity II- Santa Ignacia and Ramos, Tarlac; Dagupan City; Masinloc and Botolan, Zambales; Olongapo City, Bontoc, Mountain Province; Vigan City, Ilocos Sur

Intensity I- City of Tarlac and Bamban, Tarlac; Guagua, Pampanga; Abucay and Dinalupihan, Bataan; Urdaneta City, Pangasinan; Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; Santol, La Union; Bustos, Bulacan; Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Navotas City

Instrumental intensity is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.

Phivolcs said aftershocks are likely but damage is not expected from the earthquake. (PNA)
